Brucella Antibody Rapid Test: Fast Detection for a Serious Zoonotic Threat
Introduction
Brucellosis is one of the most common zoonotic infections worldwide, affecting both humans and animals. Caused by Brucella species, this disease poses a significant risk to livestock industries and public health. Early diagnosis is essential to prevent outbreaks and reduce economic losses.
The Brucella Antibody Rapid Test offers a fast, reliable, and easy-to-use solution for detecting Brucella antibodies in serum, plasma, or whole blood samples.
What Is Brucella and Why It Matters
Brucella bacteria primarily infect cattle, goats, sheep, pigs, and dogs. Human infection often occurs through:
Consumption of unpasteurized milk or dairy products
Contact with infected animals or tissues
Inhalation of contaminated aerosols in laboratories or farms
Symptoms in humans include fever, fatigue, joint pain, and night sweats often mistaken for other diseases. Without accurate testing, brucellosis can become chronic and difficult to treat.
How the Brucella Antibody Rapid Test Works
This immunochromatographic assay detects antibodies (IgG and IgM) specific to Brucella species in a sample.
Principle of the Test:
A drop of sample is applied to the test device.
If Brucella antibodies are present, they bind to antigen-coated particles on the test strip.
Within 10–15 minutes, a visible colored line appears indicating a positive result.
Key Features:
🔹 Rapid results: 10–15 minutes
🔹 No equipment required: Ideal for field testing
🔹 Easy interpretation: Visual color lines
🔹 High sensitivity and specificity
🔹 Usable for human or animal samples (depending on the kit type)
Applications
The Brucella Antibody Rapid Test is widely used in:
Veterinary diagnostics – routine screening of livestock herds
Public health monitoring – detection in high-risk populations
Border and trade control – ensuring animal health safety
Research laboratories – serological surveillance
Advantages Over Traditional Methods
| Method | Time | Equipment Needed | Sensitivity | Field Use |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rapid Test | 10–15 min | None | High | Excellent |
| ELISA | 2–4 hours | Yes | Very High | Limited |
| Culture | Several days | Yes | Very High | Not suitable |
The Brucella Rapid Test bridges the gap between laboratory accuracy and on-site practicality.
How to Use the Test
Collect a serum, plasma, or whole blood sample.
Add the sample and buffer to the test cassette.
Wait 10–15 minutes.
Interpret the result:
Two lines: Positive (Brucella antibodies detected)
One control line: Negative
No control line: Invalid (repeat test)
